Costa Blanca
Discover the Costa Blanca and Moraira

The Costa Blanca is the 200-kilometre-plus coastline of the province of Alicante, from Dénia in the north to Pilar de la Horadada in the south. The name, the white coast, was coined in the fifties to attract tourism. Moraira is in the northern part, where the coast is rocky with small coves. From Moraira, most places on the Costa Blanca can be done as a day trip; on this page you will find an overview with driving times.
Down the coast to the south
| Destination | Driving time from Moraira | What for |
|---|---|---|
| Benissa | ± 15 min | Historic centre, Saturday market, quiet coves |
| Calpe | ± 20 min | Peñón de Ifach, fish auction, salt lake |

Beyond Dénia the Costa Blanca officially ends. Oliva, Gandia and the city of Valencia are in the province of Valencia, but are easy to reach from Moraira on the AP-7.

| Oliva | ± 35 min | Dunes and wide sandy beaches |

Inland and sights
Behind the coast lie mountain villages and nature reserves. The best known is Guadalest, a village with a castle on a rock. A selection of the main excursions, from the Algar waterfalls to the island of Tabarca, is listed under the top 10 attractions of the Costa Blanca.
Getting around
The AP-7 motorway on the Costa Blanca has been toll-free since January 2020, which makes day trips by car easy. Without a car you can take TRAM line 9, which runs along the coast between Dénia and Benidorm and stops in Teulada, Benissa, Calpe and Altea among others. You can read more about that under public transport around Moraira.

Frequently asked questions about the Costa Blanca
What is the Costa Blanca?
The Costa Blanca is the coastal region of the province of Alicante in south-east Spain. The name means literally "white coast" and refers to the white sandy beaches. The region is known for its mild climate, crystal-clear water, picturesque villages and a varied choice of things to do and places to eat.
Which places are on the Costa Blanca?
The best known places on the Costa Blanca are — from north to south — Dénia, Jávea (Xàbia), Moraira, Calpe, Altea, Benidorm, Villajoyosa, Alicante and Torrevieja. Moraira is seen as one of the prettiest and most authentic places on the Costa Blanca.
How far are Calpe and Jávea from Moraira?
Calpe is about 13 km from Moraira (20 min drive). Jávea (Xàbia) is about 13 km (20 min). Both are perfect for a day out and each has its own character: Calpe with the imposing Peñón de Ifach, Jávea with its authentic old centre and lovely coves.
What are the finest places to visit on the Costa Blanca?
Besides Moraira, Altea (white mountain village with artists), Guadalest (medieval mountain village), the Jalón valley (almond blossom and wine), Valencia (1 hr 30) and the Algar waterfalls are absolute recommendations. For a city day out, Alicante with the Castillo de Santa Bárbara is a fine trip too.
Is the Costa Blanca a good destination for families?
Certainly. The Costa Blanca is particularly suited to families thanks to the quiet coves, good beach safety, family-friendly restaurants and theme parks nearby (Terra Mítica near Benidorm). Moraira itself is a quiet, safe village — ideal for a relaxed family holiday.
