About us
May we introduce ourselves
We would like to introduce ourselves.
We are a Dutch family: Robert, Joyce and Kick, a family of entrepreneurs from the Rotterdam area.
When a child joins the family, going on holiday changes completely. Suddenly everything has to be right: it must not be too hot or too cold, there has to be a paddling pool, an afternoon nap has to be possible, a cot has to be available. The beach must not shelve steeply, no rocks, no high waves.
And as children get older, new questions come along: are they enjoying themselves? Is there enough to do? Are there other children? And is there food they will eat?
We struggled with that quite a bit in the first few years. Because however nice it is to have everything sorted for our child — we want to enjoy our own holiday as well.
Our holiday experiences
We tried various destinations:
Turkey (resort)
Far too crowded. Buffets all day long, well outside the town. Resorts are often in the middle of nowhere, so everything happens inside the complex. And then of course the inevitable entertainment team with evening shows.
Menorca (child-friendly?)
A change in Ibiza on a plane full of party-goers who were visibly irritated by children. The beach was marshy, the pool unheated and freezing, and the whole thing above all… dull. Not so much child-friendly as simply a lot of children in one place.
Tenerife and the Canary Islands
After those earlier experiences we wanted a hotel on a promenade. The hotel was lovely, but outside it was disappointing: broken-up streets, many empty shops and shouted offers for a € 1 beer everywhere.
Club Med (Tunisia and Turkey)
The other guests were pleasant, but the accommodation was disappointing. The concept of staff constantly joining guests at their table appealed to us less as well.
And then… Moraira
Then we thought: what if we rent a house of our own with a pool in Spain? But where?
After some searching we came to Moraira — and that felt right straight away.
Authentic, no high-rise, not overly touristy. A charming fishing village with a marina, little shops, restaurants and terraces. A sandy beach in a bay that shelves gently into the sea, sunshine almost all the time (a good 300 days a year), little rain, pleasant temperatures and plenty of things to do for young and old.
For us the tennis courts made it complete — our son plays tennis keenly.
This had to be it.
Through Xenofilia, two Dutch brothers who live in Moraira themselves and let holiday homes, we found our first place to stay: Xenofilia I. A large house with four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a heated pool and even its own tennis court.
With the grandparents along, the seven of us set off for Spain. It turned into a fantastic holiday. Everything we had read about Moraira was true. A luxurious feel, handsome streets, artistic roundabouts — and all of it without St Tropez prices. A glass of wine on the beach for € 2, and eating out is often cheaper than in the Netherlands.
From holidaymaker to owner
By then we had been back some fifteen times. First a few more times in the house, later with friends for Kick.
But a house has a drawback too: everything has to be done by car. Shopping, the beach, day trips. And children tend to stay in and around the house.
So the last few times we rented an apartment in the centre. A perfect choice.
Our son (11 by now) could go to the beach on his own. No need to bring friends along any more, because there are plenty there. Football, volleyball, fishing, hunting for crabs, snorkelling, jumping into the surf and of course swimming.
After the beach we enjoy a glass of wine and tapas on the balcony. Kick? He fetches himself a pizza from the pizzeria round the corner and plays on his iPad for a bit, or goes for another swim in the pool. Because the apartment looks out over the pool, we could still keep half an eye on him. Everybody happy!
Even in January and the spring half-term Moraira is a delight: around 20 degrees, sunny and anything but deserted.
The rest is history
Then came the question: shouldn’t we buy something here?
And when we are not there ourselves, could we let it out?
The rest is history.
We warmly invite you to come and enjoy this gem on the Costa Blanca and our lovely apartment.
Welcome!
Warm regards,
Robert, Joyce and Kick

Who lets Calamora?
A Dutch family: Robert, Joyce and Kick, a family of entrepreneurs from the Rotterdam area. You book directly with us, with no agency in between.
Why did it become Moraira?
After resorts in Turkey, Menorca and Tenerife and at Club Med, we were looking for a house of our own with a pool in Spain. Moraira turned out to be authentic and not overly touristy: no high-rise, a marina, little shops, restaurants and terraces, and a sandy beach in a bay that shelves gently into the sea.
Is it suitable for families with children?
That is exactly what it was chosen for. We ran into the question ourselves of how to find a holiday where a child is entertained without the parents losing their own holiday: a paddling pool, play equipment in the garden, a beach that shelves gently and enough to do in the village. Exactly what is there is listed under amenities.
How much sun does Moraira get?
A good 300 sunny days a year, with little rain and pleasant temperatures.
Who can I turn to if something comes up during my stay?
