Walking
Walking around Moraira – nature, coast and views
Walking in Moraira begins at the front door: from the centre you stroll straight to the marina, the beach and the castle, and a little further on the marked paths start towards the cliffs of the Cap d’Or and the coves in the direction of Benitachell. This page sets out which walks you can do in and around the village without getting into the car first. For longer day outings, such as the coastal path to Calpe, we refer you to our page on walking routes around Moraira.
A circuit through the village
The simplest walk is the one along the water. The marina of Club Náutico Moraira, Platja de l’Ampolla and the castle all lie close together. The castle of 1742, built to defend against pirates, stands on a rocky point above l’Ampolla and looks out over the whole bay. It is a flat walk with no climbing, pleasant in the early morning or around sunset, and there are plenty of terraces along the way for a break. From Calamora the marina is some 250 metres away and the beach about 200 metres.
If you want to walk a little further, you can explore the coast along the small, centrally placed coves of Les Platgetes, or seek out the pebble cove Cala de l’Andragó by Cap Blanc a little beyond. That turns a beach stroll into an exploration of the rocky coast. Which cove suits you best is set out on our page about the beaches in Moraira.

Walking around Teulada
The old village of Teulada lies a few kilometres inland and is the starting point for quiet walks past almond trees and old farmhouses. Examples are the short outing to the spring and chapel of Font Santa (about an hour, easy), the walk to the old windmill of Els Castellons (about an hour) and the route via Benimeit to the cove of l’Andragó (about two hours). That way you walk from the interior back to the coast.
About the walk to the Torre del Cap d’Or
The tower is 11 metres high and had no door at ground level: the watchmen climbed in by rope ladder. Take water with you, because there is little shade on the Cap d’Or.
When and how
- Best season: spring, autumn and winter. In July and August you are better off walking early in the morning or in the evening.
- Footwear: ordinary shoes are enough for the walk along the water; on the paths of the Cap d’Or and in the barrancos you need sturdy shoes with a good tread.
- Water and sun: take enough water and sun protection, outside summer as well.
- Combining: many walks end at a cove, so swimming things in the rucksack are no luxury.
Which months are the most pleasant for walking is also set out on our page about the best time to visit Moraira.
