Best time to visit Moraira
The best time to visit Moraira depends on what you want to do. For swimming and long evenings outdoors, June and September are the most pleasant: warm, with sea temperatures of 22 to 25°C, but less crowded than July and August. If you mainly want to walk, cycle or explore the area, spring and October and November are a good fit. And in winter, with an average of around 16°C during the day, Moraira is a quiet place to escape the cold at home.
Below is what to expect in each season. The monthly figures themselves (temperature, hours of sunshine, rainfall, sea temperature) are set out in a table on the page about the weather and climate in Moraira.
| What you are after | Best period | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Beach and swimming | June and September | sea 22 to 25°C, quieter than the height of summer |
| Walking and cycling | March to May, October and November | 18 to 23°C by day, no midday heat |
| Liveliness and nightlife | July and August | the warmest and busiest months, everything open |
| Peace and a long stay | December to February | around 16°C by day, few tourists |
Spring (March to May)
In March the afternoon temperature averages around 18°C, in May around 23°C. The sea is still fresh then (14 to 18°C), so for most people this is a season for walking rather than swimming. The routes to the Cap d’Or and along the coast towards Calpe are at their best in these months. Do bear Easter week (Semana Santa) in mind: that is when many Spanish visitors arrive and the village and the roads can be busier. You will find routes and tips under the walking routes around Moraira.
Summer (June to August)
July and August are the warmest months, averaging 29 to 30°C during the day and nights around 20°C. The sea is then 25 to 26°C. It is also the busiest period: the beaches in the village fill up early, parking becomes harder and on busy evenings it is wise to book a table. June is a good alternative: the water is already 22°C, the days are at their longest and it is noticeably quieter. In summer, plan active outings for the morning or after five o’clock.
Autumn (September to November)
For many beach lovers September is the best month: still 28°C on average during the day, and at 25°C the sea is almost as warm as in August. In October the temperature drops to an average of 23°C and the sea is still 22°C. Autumn is the wettest season, though: at an average of 81 mm, October is the wettest month. That rain usually comes in a few heavy showers rather than days of drizzle, but a few wet days are quite possible in this period. November is quiet and mild (averaging 19°C during the day).
Winter (December to February)
In winter the daytime average is around 16°C, with an average of 5 to 6 hours of sunshine a day. At night it turns cool, with lows around 6 to 7°C, and the days are short. Swimming in the sea is too cold for most people (14 to 16°C). It is, however, a good period for anyone looking for peace, who enjoys walking or who wants to stay for a longer spell. Practical information about a longer stay, such as residence rules and healthcare, is on the page about wintering in Moraira.
Fiestas and events

In short
For the beach and warm sea: June or September. For walking and the surrounding area: April, May, October or November. For the full bustle of summer and lively evenings: July and August. For a quiet stay in a mild climate: winter. Because most sights and nature areas are open all year round, every month suits day trips, such as a day trip to Calpe and the Peñón de Ifach.
