Shops and market in Moraira
The weekly market in Moraira is held every Friday morning, on the central car park on the Ctra. Moraira–Calpe next to the Les Sorts sports complex. The stalls are there from about 9 until 2. From the centre of Moraira it is a few minutes’ walk.
The weekly market in Moraira
The Friday market is the largest in Teulada-Moraira and draws residents just as much as holidaymakers. It is not a market of souvenirs only: a large share of the stalls sell vegetables, fruit, nuts, olives, cheese and cured meats, alongside clothing, leather goods and household items.
Come before noon if you can. In July and August it gets busy and hot after eleven, and by then the fresh-produce stalls have been picked over. Bring cash: by no means every stall takes cards.
Where the market is held
The market stands on the large car park at Ctra. Moraira a Calpe 20, right next to the municipal sports complex Les Sorts and a few steps from the Avenida de Madrid. From the roundabout with the old olive tree it is about a minute’s walk.

Parking on market day
There is a catch here that few visitors know in advance: the market stands on the very car park that serves as Moraira’s central parking for the rest of the week. On Friday morning it is therefore unavailable, and the surrounding streets are busy. If you come by car, park further from the centre and walk the last stretch. Anyone staying in the centre will not notice it.
Summer evening market
In the summer months Moraira also has an evening market on the Avinguda de la Pau, which opens around six in the evening. The exact period varies from year to year; the Teulada-Moraira tourist office has the current dates.
Markets in the area
Every town in the Marina Alta has its own market day. Handy if you want to combine a day out with a market. The market days below are confirmed; start and finish times vary by town and by season.
| Town | Market day | From Moraira |
|---|---|---|
| Moraira | Friday morning | in the centre |
| Teulada | Wednesday morning | 6.3 km · 8 min |
| Benissa | Saturday morning | 12.1 km · 17 min |
| Calpe | Wednesday and Saturday | 13.7 km · 21 min |
In Teulada there is also a rastro on Sunday morning, a flea and second-hand market. If you are after a genuine craft market, drive to the flea market in Jalón inland.
Shopping for groceries in Moraira
For everyday shopping you do not need to leave Moraira. Two supermarkets are within walking distance of the centre; the larger chains are a few minutes’ drive towards Teulada and Benitachell.

Pepe la Sal is the supermarket many residents go to, with a good butcher and cheese counter and plenty of northern European products. Supercor Exprés is smaller and mainly useful if you have forgotten something. There is no Aldi in Moraira itself; the nearest discounter is the Lidl on the road to Teulada.
Opening hours, Sundays and the siesta
Two things to bear in mind. Many smaller shops close for a few hours in the afternoon and open again around five; supermarkets keep longer hours and are usually open continuously from about nine. On Sundays the choice is limited: outside the high season the big chains are generally closed, while smaller neighbourhood shops are often open in the morning.
Opening hours differ by shop and by season. Check them shortly before your visit; we are happy to tell you the current state of play during your stay.
Shops in the centre of Moraira
Moraira’s shopping area is compact: a handful of streets around the Avenida de Madrid and towards the harbour, with boutiques, delicatessens, a few galleries and the usual beach shops. Everything is within ten minutes’ walk of everything else, and it combines well with a terrace or restaurant or a stroll along the marina.
Do not expect a shopping centre. Anyone looking for that drives to Calpe or Benidorm.
Practical things to know
- Bring cash to the market; by no means every stall takes cards.
- Bring your own bag, because plastic bags are charged for in Spain.
- Haggling belongs with clothing and leather goods, not with fruit and vegetables.
- In supermarkets you weigh fruit and vegetables yourself and stick the label on.
- There are no public toilets at the market; the cafes around it are the nearest.
