Watching sport in Moraira: football and Formula 1 on screen
Watching sport in Moraira: where are the football and the Formula 1 on?

A match involving your national team, a Grand Prix or just a Sunday afternoon: on holiday you want to know where the screen is on. In and around Moraira there are a handful of regular places, and it pays to know which ones beforehand.
Why the channel matters
Most Spanish bars run Movistar Plus or DAZN. You will see the pictures, but the commentary is in Spanish, and not every league match or every Grand Prix is in that package. In places with Dutch owners the chance of the Dutch broadcast is far greater, and they can often switch to an English feed if you ask. If there is a particular match you want to see, call ahead: it is a ten-second question that can save an evening.
The times are Central European
Mainland Spain is on Central European Time, the same as the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and France, and one hour ahead of the UK and Ireland. A match that kicks off at 20:45 in Amsterdam starts at 20:45 here too; coming from the UK, add an hour to what you are used to. Only for races outside Europe, in Asia or the Americas, does the time shift awkwardly, and some places do not open for those.
Big matches and tournaments
During a European Championship, a World Cup or a Grand Prix these places fill up. Come half an hour before the start, or call to ask whether there is room. At Bar Jimmy’s on the promenade and at Moodz by the marina you will be among northern Europeans during a tournament; for many guests that is exactly the reason to go. Moodz puts a big screen up outside for the European Championship and the World Cup, while inside it is small; Jimmy’s is a little bar with one screen indoors.
Where the screen is outdoors
If you want to watch the match outside, there are three addresses in the area. At Grand Café Flo in Jávea the outdoor bar has three screens of three by four metres, and there is a mini-golf course and a playground as well, so the children keep themselves busy while you watch. At Soluna Beach, also in Jávea, you follow the big tournaments from beside the pool. And Grizzly’s in Calpe has screens indoors, at the bar and by the terrace. Allow twenty minutes to half an hour’s drive.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I watch football in Moraira?
Bar Jimmy’s on the Paseo del Senillar shows most matches and is within walking distance of Calamora; it is a small bar with one screen indoors, so come early. At Moodz by the marina a big screen goes up outside during the European Championship and the World Cup, while there is little room inside. Further away, in Calpe, there is Grizzly’s, with screens indoors, at the bar and by the terrace.
Can I follow Formula 1 anywhere?
Yes. Bar Jimmy’s in Moraira, Grand Café Flo in Jávea and Grizzly’s in Calpe all put Formula 1 on. At Flo that is on three screens of three by four metres in the outdoor bar. Call ahead if in doubt, especially for a race at an unusual hour.
Will the commentary be in English or in Spanish?
That depends on the place. Spanish bars generally run Movistar Plus or DAZN, and so Spanish commentary. The places on this page have Dutch owners, so the Dutch broadcast is the most likely one. If you want English commentary, ask when you call: they can often switch the feed.
What time do matches start in Spain?
Mainland Spain is on Central European Time, the same as the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and France, and one hour ahead of the UK and Ireland. A match that kicks off at 20:45 in Amsterdam starts at 20:45 here; from the UK, add an hour. Only races and matches outside Europe fall at a different time.
Do I need to book for a big match?
Booking is usually not possible, but calling is wise. During a European Championship, World Cup or Grand Prix these places are full. Come half an hour before the start if you want to be sure of a seat.
Where can you stay in Moraira, within walking distance of the bars?
Calamora is on the central roundabout of Moraira. The first restaurants and shops are about 50 metres away, the marina with its terraces some 250 metres and the sandy beach about 200 metres. So you need no car to go out to eat. The apartment and the penthouse both have two bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and access to the communal swimming pool with its children’s pool. You book directly with the owner. View the accommodation.
