Rooftop bars in Moraira: cocktails with a view over the village

Rooftop bars in Moraira

Moraira is built low, and that is laid down in law: no apartment blocks on the beach, no high-rise in the village. That is precisely what makes a roof terrace special here. Two floors above the street and you already look out over the village, the harbour and the sea.

The four addresses

There are three in the village itself. SEVEN is on the roof of Hotel Buigues, in the middle of the old centre, looking out over the rooftops of the village. Captain Andy’s and UpperClub are both upstairs at Club Náutico by the marina and look out over the boats, with the Peñón de Ifach at Calpe on one side in clear weather and the Sierra de Bernia on the other; note that these are two separate establishments in the same complex. The fourth, La Cabana, is a few minutes’ drive further along the coast road and looks out from its roof over Cala de l’Andragó.

When to go

Before sunset. The sun drops behind the mountains here rather than into the sea, so the light turns earlier than you expect. Come half an hour ahead; after that the places along the edge are taken.

What to expect

Cocktails, cava, wine and gin and tonics, with tapas or small dishes alongside. These are places for a drink, not restaurants: for a full dinner you head into the village afterwards, where the restaurants are within walking distance.

Booking and what to wear

Booking is usually not possible; you turn up and see whether there is room. There is no dress code, but a roof terrace is cooler and windier in the evening than the street. Bring something with long sleeves, even in summer.

Frequently asked questions

Which rooftop bars are there in Moraira?

Four. In the village: SEVEN on the roof of Hotel Buigues on Calle Doctor Calatayud, and Captain Andy’s and UpperClub above Club Náutico at the marina; those are two separate establishments in the same complex. Beyond the village, La Cabana on the coast road towards Calpe, above Cala de l’Andragó.

What time do they open?

SEVEN is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 18:00 to 24:00 and closed on Mondays. Captain Andy’s is open daily from 17:30 to 01:30. UpperClub only opens in the evening and publishes no fixed hours. La Cabana is the daytime one: Monday to Saturday until 21:30 and on Sunday only until 16:00.

Can I reserve a table?

Usually not. At sunset in July and August the roof terraces are full, so come half an hour before the sun goes down.

Where is the view best?

That depends on what you want to see. Captain Andy’s and UpperClub look out over the marina and, in clear weather, as far as the Peñón de Ifach. SEVEN looks out over the rooftops of the old village towards the coast. La Cabana looks out over the bay of Cala de l’Andragó and the open sea.

Can you eat there as well?

Only small dishes and tapas. For a full dinner you head into the village; the restaurants are a few minutes’ walk away.

Where can you stay in Moraira, within walking distance of the roof terraces?

Calamora is on the central roundabout of Moraira. The first restaurants and shops are about 50 metres away, the marina with its terraces some 250 metres and the sandy beach about 200 metres. So you need no car to go out to eat. The apartment and the penthouse both have two bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and access to the communal swimming pool with its children’s pool. You book directly with the owner. View the accommodation.
