Breakfast and lunch in Moraira
Breakfast and lunch in Moraira

In Spain breakfast is small and early, and then happens again. Knowing that, you eat better: the best coffee and the freshest bread come at the moments when the Spanish themselves sit down.
What a Spanish breakfast is
Usually a coffee with a tostada: toasted bread with grated tomato, olive oil and salt. Alongside that, croissants, small savoury rolls and sometimes churros with chocolate. A full English or Dutch breakfast is mostly found at the places with foreign owners.
What time
The Niki&Niki bakery on the Avenida de la Paz is the earliest, at eight. Pluk in the same street opens at nine, and so does Golden Brunch on the road to Calpe, which on Friday opens at seven. After them come Bo Moraira at half past nine and Bites en Bubbels and artesano at ten. Come before ten if you want a quiet table.
The menú del día at midday
Between roughly 13:00 and 15:30 many places serve a three-course set menu with bread and a drink, for fifteen to twenty euros. It is the best-value way to eat well, and often better than what is on the carte.
Dietary needs
Gluten free is no longer a problem in Moraira; Bites en Bubbels has a wide choice of it. Vegetarian is possible almost everywhere, vegan takes a little more looking. Mention it when you book and the kitchen will think along with you.
