The route country by country
| Country | Roads and direction |
|---|---|
| Netherlands | From Utrecht, the A2 towards Maastricht; cross the border into Belgium at Eijsden |
| Belgium | E25 towards Liège, then the E40 towards Brussels and the E19 towards Mons and France |
| France | A2/A1 towards Paris, the ring road (A86 or Périphérique), A6 towards Lyon, A7 towards Orange/Marseille, A9 towards Montpellier and Perpignan; cross the border at Le Perthus |
| Spain | AP-7 towards Barcelona and Valencia, exit 63 Benissa/Teulada, then follow the signs for Moraira |
If you would rather avoid Paris, you can also drive to Lyon via Luxembourg and eastern France; from Lyon on, the route is the same. Note that the A6/A7 past Lyon lies outside the Lyon low-emission zone; you need a Crit’Air sticker only if you leave the motorway there and head into the city. That, and other preparations such as tolls and overnight stops, is covered on the page by car to Moraira.
The last stretch to Calamora
After exit 63 off the AP-7 you follow the N-332 and then the CV-740 to Moraira.
- In Moraira, follow the signs for the centre until you reach the roundabout with the large olive tree.
- Coming from the Benissa/Teulada exit, take the 4th turning off this roundabout.
- Immediately after it, on your right, is the entrance to the Calamora apartment complex at Avenida de Madrid 24, just left of Hispania.
- Parking is free across the street.
A tip for your sat nav
Enter Avenida de Madrid 24, 03724 Moraira as your destination. Local sources also list the street as Avda. Madrid. The Teulada-Moraira tourist office is on the same street, at number 15.
From Alicante or Valencia airport
If you fly in and hire a car, the route is shorter and simpler:
- From Alicante-Elche (about 95 km, a little over an hour): follow the AP-7 towards Valencia to exit 63 Benissa/Teulada.
- From Valencia (about 130 km, roughly 1.5 hours): take the V-30 to the AP-7 towards Alicante and, again, exit 63.
From that exit you follow the same final stretch as above. There is more about both airports on flying to Moraira; if you want to hire a car, see car hire in Moraira.
Breaking the journey
At around 2,000 kilometres, one overnight stop is usual, normally in southern France — in the Rhône valley between Lyon and Orange, for instance. Suggestions for that stop are on the page about the drive down. The Spanish part of the AP-7, from the border at La Jonquera all the way to Alicante, is now toll-free.
