Frequently asked questions
Can I hire a sailing boat or a catamaran in Moraira?
Yes. Through the marina of Moraira you can hire sailing boats, catamarans and motorboats, without a skipper too (with a licence). Several providers operate from the harbour. Book in advance if you can, certainly in high season.
Do I need a boat licence to sail near Moraira?
Since 1 October 2026 you always need a recognised licence for a hired motorboat, however small the boat (Royal Decree 1188/2025). The old exemption for boats up to 5 metres with a maximum of 15 hp, within two nautical miles of a harbour, now applies only to privately owned boats. Sailing with a skipper on board does not require a licence. Ask the hire company about the specific rules for the vessel you want to hire.
Are sailing lessons available in Moraira?
Yes, there are sailing schools operating from the marina of Moraira and in the surrounding towns. Both beginners’ courses and more advanced lessons are offered. Some providers also run day camps for children in summer.
Can I book a guided catamaran or sailing trip?
Yes. Various operators offer guided full-day or half-day trips along the Costa Blanca, with an optional snorkelling stop at a cove. Ideal if you have no experience yourself but still want to enjoy a day on the water.
How big is the marina of Moraira?
The marina (Club Náutico Moraira) has well over 400 berths and offers all the facilities: fuel, water, electricity, washrooms and a chandlery. There is also a bar and a terrace looking out over the water. More on our page about the marina.
Are there boat connections from Moraira to other places?
In the summer season sightseeing boats leave Moraira along the coast and to neighbouring coves. There are no scheduled ferry connections to the islands from Moraira itself, but from Dénia (± 25 km) a ferry sails to the Balearics (Ibiza, Mallorca, Formentera).
