Playa de L'Ampolla strand Moraira

L’Ampolla

Playa de l’Ampolla is the largest sandy beach in Moraira and lies right beside the centre, by the castle and the marina. It is the beach you reach quickest if you are staying in the village, and for that reason the busiest in summer. L’Ampolla lost its Blue Flag in 2024 and is not on the 2026 list either, but in season the beach has a lifeguard and the usual facilities as normal.

  • Type: fine sand, wide beach
  • Facilities: lifeguard in season, toilets, showers, places to eat nearby
  • Combine with: a visit to the castle and a stroll along the marina

Cala l'Andragó – baai en strand Moraira

L’Andragó

Cala l’Andragó is not a sandy beach but a rocky cove with flat stones and boulders, south of the centre. The water is clear and the rocky bottom makes it a favourite spot for snorkelling. Water shoes are far from a luxury. Above the cove are beach bars and restaurants, among them Algas l’Andragó.

  • Type: rock and boulders
  • Good for: snorkelling, a drink with a view of the sea

Les Platgetes

A little further south, towards Benissa, lie Les Platgetes: two small adjoining coves with sand and outcrops of rock. It is usually a little quieter here than at l’Ampolla and El Portet. Les Platgetes holds the Blue Flag in 2026.

  • Type: sand and rock
  • Facilities: lifeguard in season, boardwalks, car park nearby
  • Good for: a quiet day on the beach and snorkelling along the rocks

Rocky coves and calas in Moraira

Bootjes bij Torre de Cap d'Or – strand Moraira

Cala Cap Blanc, Cala Portitxol and Cala Llebeig

Between and beside the beaches lie smaller rocky coves with no sand and usually no facilities. They are mainly of interest to anyone who wants to snorkel or is looking for a quiet spot.

  • Cala Cap Blanc: rocky coast at Punta Estrella, south of Moraira, with clear water; a favourite with snorkellers and divers.
  • Cala Portitxol: a small rocky cove by the entrance to the marina, good for snorkelling.
  • Cala Llebeig: the most remote cove in the municipality, reachable only on foot along a demanding path. See the little beach of Cala Llebeig.

For these coves bring your own water, shade and water shoes. More about snorkelling and diving is under diving and snorkelling.

That depends on your taste. El Portet is known as the prettiest and most photographed beach in Moraira: an enclosed bay with crystal-clear water, surrounded by rock. L'Ampolla by the centre is the largest and most complete beach, ideal for families. Cala l'Andragó is a little wilder and popular with snorkellers.

How far are the beaches from the centre of Moraira?

Les Platgetes and L'Ampolla are within walking distance of the centre, about 5 to 10 minutes on foot. El Portet is about 1 km north of the centre: a quarter of an hour's walk along the coast, or five minutes by car. From Calamora you walk to l'Ampolla and the harbour in a few minutes.

Can I park at the beaches in Moraira?

At L'Ampolla there is a free unpaved car park right beside the beach. At El Portet parking is more limited; in summer it is better to come early or use a nearby paid car park. Staying at Calamora? Then free parking in the complex car park is included.

Is snorkelling possible at the beaches in Moraira?

Yes, absolutely. The water at Moraira is exceptionally clear. El Portet and Cala l'Andragó are the best spots for snorkelling, with rich underwater life. At Cala l'Andragó you can hire equipment as well. Want to dive deeper? The dive school in Moraira's marina offers guided dives.

Are the beaches in Moraira suitable for children?

Certainly. L'Ampolla is ideal for young children thanks to the gently shelving water. In summer the beach has a lifeguard, a first-aid post and sanitary facilities. El Portet is a little deeper but suitable too. The water in Moraira is warm, clean and calm – ideal for a family holiday.

Do the beaches in Moraira have a Blue Flag?
