Fiestas and public holidays in Moraira

The big fiestas in Moraira fall in June and July: first Moros y Cristianos, then the patron saint feasts with processions at sea and Bous a la Mar in the harbour. In Teulada, the old village to which Moraira belongs administratively, the main fiestas fall in spring, in August and in November. The exact dates shift by a few days each year. Below you will find the fixed pattern, with the dates of recent editions as a guide.

Moros y Cristianos in June

Moros y Cristianos is the best known fiesta in Moraira. For a good week the filàs, the associations of Moors and Christians, re-enact the historic struggle between Moors and Christians, in costume, with music and a great deal of gunpowder. The beach of l’Ampolla, the square by the castle and the streets of the centre form the setting. In 2026 the Moorish conquest took place on the evening of Friday 12 June and the Christian reconquest on the evening of Saturday 13 June, both at Platja de l’Ampolla. On the closing Sunday the great gala parade passes through the centre, rounded off with fireworks.

For many visitors the parade is the high point. Find a spot along the route well before it starts, because the streets in the centre fill up quickly. More about the castle where part of the fiesta takes place is on our page about El Castillo in Moraira.

Patron saint feasts and Bous a la Mar in July

In the first half of July Moraira celebrates the feasts in honour of the Virgen de los Desamparados and the Virgen del Carmen, who has long been venerated by fishermen and seafarers. The programme runs for a good two weeks, with music, dance, activities for children and several firework displays. Fixed moments are the procession for the Virgen de los Desamparados on 15 July and the procession by sea and by land for the Virgen del Carmen on 16 July, followed by major fireworks.

Bous a la Mar is a particular feature: the traditional bull game by the water, in which the sea is part of the playing field. In 2026 Bous a la Mar was on the programme on three consecutive days, from 7 to 9 July. It is a tradition that does not appeal to everyone; you can also choose to attend only the processions and concerts.

Nit de Sant Joan and the summer

On the evening of 23 June, the Nit de Sant Joan, Moraira gathers at Platja de l’Ampolla. In earlier years there was music and a bonfire was lit around midnight, after which many people traditionally walked into the sea. In August, during the medieval market, the old centre of Teulada turns into a market with crafts, regional produce and music — good fun with children too.

Outside high season

If you come in spring, you can take in the feasts for Sant Vicent Ferrer in Teulada, with processions, a parade of floats and a huge paella. In November Teulada celebrates Santa Caterina, with a procession, music and fireworks. These fiestas are smaller in scale than the summer feasts in Moraira. Public holidays: when is everything closed?

Besides the fiestas there are the official days off. On those days supermarkets, banks and most shops are closed, buses run a Sunday service, and the roads and the beach are busy. Useful to know if you want to do the shopping or drive somewhere.

The two local days off in Teulada-Moraira in 2026

13 April Sant Vicent Ferrer, the patron saint feast of Teulada

15 July Virgen de los Desamparados, the patron saint of Moraira

What you notice on these two days the town hall is closed and many local shops are shut, while the rest of Spain simply works

2027 those dates are not fixed until the autumn of 2026; ask the tourist office

Do the shopping in good time

On an official public holiday the Mercadona is closed and only a few small shops are open. If the holiday falls on a Tuesday or a Thursday, many Spaniards take the day in between off as well — that is called a puente, a bridge, and then it can be quiet for four days in a row.

Frequently asked questions about fiestas in Moraira

What is the biggest fiesta in Moraira?

Moros y Cristianos (5 to 14 June) is the biggest: historic parades with cannon fire, a Moorish landing on the beach of l’Ampolla, and a great parade with fireworks by the castle on the closing Sunday.

When are the patron saint feasts?

The patron saint feasts run roughly from 3 to 19 July and revolve around Bous a la Mar (the traditional bull run in the harbour area), with music, a funfair and street parties. Access to the bull enclosure is not allowed for under-16s.

What happens at San Juan?

On the night of 23 to 24 June, the Nit de Sant Joan, bonfires burn on the beach to welcome the summer — one of the finest evenings to be on the beach.

Is there anything on outside the summer?

Yes. There is something almost every week: the weekly market, a concert on the square, or at Christmas the Christmas market in the centre (10:00–20:00).
