About us
Introducing
We would like to introduce ourselves to you.
We are a Dutch family: Robert, Joyce and Kick, an entrepreneurial family from the Rotterdam area.
When a child enters your family, vacationing changes completely. Suddenly everything has to be right: it shouldn’t be too hot or too cold, there has to be a paddling pool, an afternoon nap possible, a crib available. The beach should not slope steeply, no rocks, no high waves.
And as children get older, new questions arise: are they having fun? Is there enough to do? Are there friends? And is there food they like?
We struggled with this during the first few years. Because no matter how nice it is to have everything organized for your child, you also want to enjoy your vacation.
Our vacation experiences
We tried different destinations:
Turkey (resort)
Way too massive. All day buffets, way out of town. Resorts are often in the middle of nowhere, so everything takes place within the complex. And then of course the inevitable animation team with evening shows.
Menorca (child-friendly?)
A layover in Ibiza with a plane full of partygoers visibly annoyed by children. The beach was boggy, the pool unheated and icy cold, and the whole thing especially… boring. Not so much kid-friendly, but mostly lots of kids together.
Tenerife and the Canary Islands
After previous experiences, we wanted a hotel on a boulevard. The hotel was beautiful, but outside it was disappointing: broken streets, many empty stores and screaming offers everywhere for a €1 beer.
Club Med (Tunisia and Turkey)
The public was pleasant, but the accommodations were disappointing. We were also less attracted to the concept of staff constantly joining you at the table.
And then … Moraira
Then we thought: what if we rent our own house with a pool in Spain? But where?
After some searching, we ended up in Moraira – and it felt right away.
Authentic, no high-rise buildings, not overly touristy. A charming fishing village with a marina, stores, restaurants and terraces. A sandy beach in a bay that slopes gently into the sea, almost always sunshine (over 300 days a year), little rain, pleasant temperatures and plenty of activities for young and old.
For us it was complete with the tennis courts – our son plays tennis fanatically.
This had to be it.
Through Xenofilia, two Dutch brothers who themselves live in Moraira and rent vacation homes, we found our first residence: Xenofilia I. A large house with four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a heated pool and even its own tennis court.
With grandparents joining us, the seven of us left for Spain. It turned out to be a fantastic vacation. Everything we had read about Moraira rang true. Luxury appeal, beautiful streets, artful traffic circles – and all without St. Tropez prices. A wine on the beach for €2 and eating out is often cheaper than in the Netherlands.
From vacationer to owner
By now we had been back about fifteen times. First a few more times in the house, later with friends for Kick.
But a house also has a disadvantage: everything has to be done by car. Groceries, beach, trips. And children are mostly in and around the house anyway.
That’s why the last few times we rented an apartment in the center. A perfect choice.
Our son (now 11) could go to the beach independently. No more bringing friends because there are plenty of them. Playing soccer, volleyball, fishing, looking for crabs, snorkeling, jumping in the surf and of course swimming.
We enjoy wine and tapas on the balcony after the beach. Kick? He gets himself a pizza at the pizzeria around the corner and plays on his iPad or goes for a swim in the pool. Because we have a view of the pool from the apartment, we could also keep an eye on him a bit. Everyone happy!
Even in January and spring break, Moraira is lovely: around 20 degrees, sunny and anything but deserted.
The rest is history
Then came the question: shouldn’t we buy something here?
And if we’re not there ourselves, can we rent it out?
The rest is history.
We cordially invite you to come and enjoy this gem on the Costa Blanca and our fine apartment.
Welcome!
Warmest regards,
Robert, Joyce and Kick
