Masena is a restaurant in a restored country house on the road from J\u00e1vea (X\u00e0bia) to Benitachell. The kitchen combines French technique with Mediterranean produce and a touch of North African spice. It is an address for a quiet lunch or a dinner with a little more attention to the cooking, and it pairs well with a day in J\u00e1vea.<\/p>\n

A country house just outside J\u00e1vea<\/h2>\n

The restaurant occupies a carefully restored country house. Inside you eat in a rustic dining room with wooden beams and natural stone walls; outside there are tables in the courtyard and on a terrace in a garden of native planting. Being outside the centre, it is quieter here than in the old town or on the J\u00e1vea promenade.<\/p>\n

The kitchen and the wine list<\/h2>\n

The kitchen is led by chef Hamid Megrini Moujtahid. The restaurant describes the menu as Mediterranean and seasonal, built on fresh produce from the region and classic technique. Dishes Masena names itself include beef carpaccio with foie gras, gratinated scallops with saffron and suckling pig cooked at low temperature. Because the menu moves with the seasons, what is on offer when you visit may be different.<\/p>\n
