Fishing in Moraira can be done in two ways: from the shore and the rocks around the village, or on an organised trip from the marina. For sport anglers it is above all deep-sea fishing that is interesting: trips leave Moraira for fishing grounds out at sea where bluefin tuna are fished in spring and early summer, on a catch-and-release basis.<\/p>\n

This business runs both inshore and deep-sea fishing. The tuna trips go to fishing grounds eight to twelve nautical miles offshore, on a fast fishing boat and with professional tackle. The techniques include trolling, jigging and brumeo (fishing with groundbait). The best season, according to the operator, is late April to July, and depending on the year September and October as well. The tuna are released.<\/p>\n

Fishing from the shore<\/h2>\n

People fish from the shore along the rocky coast around Moraira too. Pick a quiet moment, such as early morning or the evening, and keep your distance from swimmers, snorkellers and the entrance to the marina. The coast is largely seagrass meadow (posidonia) and rocky bottom: bring plenty of spare hooks and leads.<\/p>\n
